The Sussex Ecumenical HIV Chaplaincy was established in 2004 by the Brighton & Hove Methodist Circuit and Churches Together in Central Brighton & Kemp Town. The Chaplain, Revd Heather Leake Date, is a Methodist Minister and also a Consultant Pharmacist for HIV and Sexual Health at Brighton & Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust (which has one of the largest HIV centres in the UK).
The Chaplaincy is a free service, open to all (from any faith background or none) and offers a confidential, non-judgemental listening ear to anyone affected by HIV.
The Chaplaincy is also part of the Brighton & Hove World AIDS Day Partnership, helping to organise events to mark World AIDS Day (WAD) each year, including an annual church service and the Candlelight Vigil and Reading of Names at the Brighton AIDS Memorial. Find out more on Facebook click here.
Dorset Gardens Methodist Church is also home to Lunch Positive, an independent charity run by volunteers which provides a weekly hot meal and a safe space to socialise for people with HIV.
