Christmas Club 2021

Christmas Club

Saturday 4th December 2021

What a fabulous time we had at Christmas Club! We started with a beautiful rendition of The Holly and The Ivy which set the scene for our creative wreath making with locally grown ivy. The holly was a bit spiky!

Our ambitious idea of cooking a festive feast for fifty people meant it was all hands on deck in the kitchen. Volunteer Rosemary Cuthbert kept everyone busy preparing a delicious tomato soup and the children had a fun time whizzing up the veggies.

Baking 72 bread buns with a tasty Irish soda bread recipe was something of a Bake-Off challenge but everyone rose to the occasion and the fresh bread aroma wafted around the church building in a very appetising way.

We had some fiendishly challenging word searches to tackle, as well as colouring sheets and of course some hilarious joke telling with Reverend Deborah too.

When the parents arrived for their gourmet experience they were absolutely wowed! The tables had been set by hard working volunteers Susannah, Richmond and Vanessa, whilst Jennie, Dawn, Bo and Orla helped the children decorate ginger biscuits, creating miniature Christmas puddings for our dessert.

The celebratory atmosphere felt wonderful as we all sat down together to share a Christmas dinner with a difference. Quite a few parents insisted on obtaining our secret recipes because the children and grown ups were wolfing it down!

Thank you everyone who worked so hard to create some a magical day at Dorset Gardens, especially all 24 of our junior master chefs!
